LONELY NIGHT

The trees shimmer like
the boy with no coat. The
stars twinkle like the
mother’s eyes. The moon
shines like the flashlight
with all power. The bushes
bristle like the girl
in her bed. The night howls
like the baby in her crib.

Spinning Top

Colorful, with many shapes.
It spins round, and round. Just
like never ending colors. It
smells like the debris of wood.
It sounds like the needle
pounding on a piece of
material with thread like silk
from a sewing machine. It’s
entertaining for young children.

Window

I look through the window
But I don’t see you.
You said you’d be here.
I scream and cry,
Yelling your name.
Where are you?

Untitled

You come in many colors, shapes,
and sizes you know your
numbers you have a face
you have a body. You can
throw and you can tell.
We see you almost
everywhere you wake us up
you tell us the t-i-m-e

Oranges and Waterbeds

During the fire-lit afternoon
The old house full of relatives
We watched television and sang songs
Grandma cut oranges, Kalie got sick
We played with kittens to make her better

Down the hall something caught my eye
A waterbed was in the next room
So we swam through the night

Crossing Arkansas by Hot Air Balloon

We’re crossing Arkansas by a hot
air balloon. Floating ever so
lightly in the moon light. Like
a fish swimming in
the dark lifting me up to
breathe.
