SOME TREES

She had some trees that climbed tall mountains
She had some trees that waltzed through town
She had some trees that never went home
She had some trees that wanted to go home
She had some trees that were scared of the dark
She had some trees that were always sad
She had some trees that didn’t like outside
She had some trees that went on strolls
She had some trees that had bad allergies
She had some trees.

My fork watches as I consume it
In the jungle my fork stays with me
Fork was braver than I am
That fork feeds me
Every meal I eat or will eat that fork’ll be there
Vietnam, 1964, my fork

Brussels Sprouts

That leafy green veggie that I love
was planted, harvested, and eaten by me.
It was all fine until the poultry came
and pecked it to its demise.
Now I no longer have my Brussels sprouts
For those poultry took it all these years
ago.

Doctor’s Note

The doctor’s note
excuses me
for my absences.

I wish I had
some more
doctor’s
appointments.
